Children’s Privacy Policy

Children’s Privacy Policy

Updated as of May 15, 2024.
Performance Time, LLC (“Performance Time”, “us”, “our”, or “we”) is committed to protecting the privacy of children who use our website and associate mobile applications (together hereinafter the “Website”), which provides an internet-based integrated software application and hardware solution guided by behavior specialists designed to motivate people to achieve goals by helping them better navigate the flow of their day by providing additional support for organization, monitoring, and incentivizing behavior (the “Services”).  This Children’s Privacy Policy explains our information collection, disclosure, and parental consent practices with respect to information provided by children under the age of 13 (“child” or “children”).

This Children’s Privacy Policy is in accordance with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”), and it outlines our practices regarding children’s personal information. This Children’s Privacy Policy supplements and is in addition to our general audience Privacy Policy, which is available HERE, and which should be read alongside this Children’s Privacy Policy.

You should always check with your parents or guardians before giving out any information about you, especially before entering information on any website, mobile application, or online services.

Parental Consent

COPPA requires that we first seek a parent or guardian’s consent by email prior to our collection of personal information from a child. In the email, we will explain what information we are collecting, how we plan to use it, how the parent can provide consent, and how the parent can revoke consent. If we do not receive parental consent within a reasonable time, we will delete the parent contact information and any other information collected from the child in connection with that activity.

Information We Collect from Children

General Information
To use our Website, and for notification and security purposes, you may be required to provide us with following personal information:

  • Identifiers such as your name, a username, password, phone number, email address, and mailing address;
  • Profile information such as the child’s birthdate and gender;

Please note that children can choose whether to share their information with us, but certain features cannot function without it. As a result, children may not be able to access certain features if required information has not been provided. We will not require a child to provide more information than is reasonably necessary in order to participate in our Services.

Parent Information
Consistent with the requirements of COPPA, on any child-targeted site or application, or in any instance where we ask for age and determine the user is age 12 or under, we will ask for a parent or guardian email address before we collect any personal information from the child. If you believe your child is participating in an activity that collects personal information and you or another parent/guardian have NOT received an email providing notice or seeking your consent, please feel free to contact us at info@carrotology.com.

Content Generated by a Child
In furtherance of the Services we provide, we may require a child, or the child may have the option to, upload certain photos or videos evidencing completed progress on assigned daily tasks.  This information will only be used by us in furtherance of the Services, and such photos and videos will only be retained by us for as long as reasonably necessary to confirm completion of a task in accordance with the Services we are offering to you.  Additionally, please review our Terms and Conditions regarding our policies surrounding the uploading of photos and videos.

Chat Functions
Certain games and activities that are directed to children may allow users to communicate directly with other users by means of a chat system. In most cases, these chat systems employ filters that are intended to prevent the communication of both personal information and age-inappropriate words and phrases. In addition to filters, we may employ live moderation and/or encourage other users to flag inappropriate communications. We strongly encourage children who use these interactive features on our sites and applications never to provide personal information about themselves or any third party, and certainly never to attempt to circumvent our filters or moderation. We also recommend that parents carefully supervise their children when the children participate in online activities.

Email Contact with a Child
On occasion, in order to respond to a question or request from a child, we may need to ask for the child’s online contact information, such as an email address. We will delete this information immediately after responding to the question or request.

Push Notifications
Push notifications are notifications on mobile and other devices that are typically associated with downloaded applications, and which can communicate to the device holder even when the application is not in use. We will require a child to provide a parent email address before the child can receive push notifications from our child-directed applications that collect a device identifier. We will then provide the parent with notice of our contact with the child and will provide the parent the opportunity to prevent further notifications. Finally, we will not associate the device identifier with other personal information without contacting the parent to get consent.

Information about Computer, Phone and Other Devices

Whenever you use our Website, we collect information that your browser sends to us called Log Data.  This could include information such as your IP address (a number assigned by your Internet Service Provider that can identify your device), browser version, pages of our Website that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, and other similar statistics. We may store this Log Data as long as needed to fulfill business purposes, our contractual or legal obligations, or any other permissible purpose for which we have collected the information, including to prevent fraud or security incidents. When the applicable retention period has expired, we will take measures to permanently delete the information.  We do not further collect, sell, or use any of the Log Data other than as necessary to perform our business purposes.

We will store children’s data only as long as needed for the purpose(s) for which we originally collected it in accordance with applicable laws.  We may also retain personal information as required by law.

Your child’s therapist or medical professional who is working with you and your child to utilize the Services will also have access to your child’s personal information.  Please see our HIPAA Notice of Privacy Policy.

Further, we may disclose personal information collected from children (i) in response to a law enforcement or public agency’s (including schools or children services) request; (ii) if we believe disclosure may prevent the instigation of a crime, facilitate an investigation related to public safety or protect the safety of a child using our sites or applications; (iii) to protect the security or integrity of our sites, applications, and other technology, as well as the technology of our service providers; or (iv) enable us to take precautions against liability.

Parental Control and Choices

Children should not register for accounts themselves; parents must be the individual registering a child for accounts and the parent(s) will be deemed the account holder.  During the account creation process, we will obtain parental consent prior to the collection of their child(ren)’s personal information. At any time, parents can refuse to permit us to collect further personal information from their children in association with a particular account and can request that we delete from our records the personal information we have collected in connection with that account. Please keep in mind that a request to delete records may lead to a termination of an account, membership, or other service.

You agree not to impersonate or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity, including using another person’s username, password or other account information, or another person’s name or likeness, or provide false details for a parent or guardian.  You agree that we may take steps to verify the accuracy of information you provide, including contact information for a parent or a guardian.

Parents may access, change, or delete the personally identifiable information that we have collected from their children by logging into their account and adding, changing, or deleting the information as desired.  If parents would like us to delete any information on their children we may have stored, the parent should email info@carrotology.com to request such deletion.  A valid request to delete personal information will be accommodated within a reasonable time.

In any correspondence such as e-mail or mail, please include your name, your username, your child(ren)’s name, your email address, and your telephone number.  To protect children’s privacy and security, we will take reasonable steps to help verify a parent’s identity before granting access to any personal information.

If we make any material changes, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law prior to the changes becoming effective. These changes are effective immediately after they are posted on this page.
